Degree Final Piece

Exhibition piece. A simple concept designed to challenge how we view and describe things. A maze and a labyrinth are two separate words with different meanings but often associated as being the same. A maze is a puzzle, a challenge, a sequence of paths and dead ends. A labyrinth has a much more spiritual context and forms part of various cultures. It has only one way in and one way out. You can’t get lost. This piece challenges the viewer to determine which word best describes it. There are no dead ends etc. but neither would you say there is one way in and out. You can see everywhere but feel lost inside. The objective of the piece is then one of self-reflection. How we judge, describe or interpret things and how the words we use whilst similar can have very different meanings.
